Wine, Port & Spirits

Our wine, port & spirits department is run by Paul King.

Over the years, we have been instructed to sell a broad range of wine, port and spirits, with single boxes to sealed and unopened cases. Perhaps one of the more unusual single bottles we sold was a bottle of 1937 Moet & Chandon champagne. By repute, it came from Hitler’s personal cellar (although rather interestingly Hitler was teetotal). However, what was not known was whether the Nazis added cyanide to it when retreating! On the auction day, there was huge interest in this single bottle and it sold to a Scandinavian TV company for an astounding £1,700.

If you have a single bottle, a group of bottles or a case (or two), contact Paul King at our salerooms 01935 812277 or send him lists or images to pk@charterhouse-auction.com and Paul will contact you with a valuation.

All of our auctions use live internet bidding platforms to ensure that every lot, whether it is worth £20 or £500,000, reaches the widest possible market and sells for the best price possible. In the run-up to an auction we receive 100s of emails requesting further information for lots in the sale. Attached to these email replies, we regularly send well over 1,000 digital images, such is the huge interest generated in our auctions.
