A set of four Chinese panels sold for £500,000 in Charterhouse February auction in Sherborne. “The Chinese panels were sold on Friday 14th February, a year to the day after we sold a magnificent Italian pottery charger for £565,000, and I thought at one point we were going to break the in house record for the most expensive lot we have sold! ” Commented Richard Bromell. “Initial reaction to the panels before the auction was relaxed, and on the morning of the auction I thought they might sell for about £20,000. However, when the lot was under way, selling it was hugely exciting as bidding increments were going up in £20,000 jumps! People were bidding in the saleroom, live through the internet and on the telephone, with the hammer falling to a Chinese bidder on the telephone. “The panels came from a chalet bungalow in Dorset. The family were sorting through items surplus to their needs after their father moved. Two of the panels were hung on the wall, while the other two panels were stored under a bed.Charterhouse is now accepting for their forthcoming spring auctions including dolls, medals, militaria, coins, stamps & other collector’s items in March, followed by classic cars and motorcycles in April. For further information regarding these auctions, or to arrange a home visit, please contact Richard Bromell, Director at Charterhouse, The Long Street Salerooms, Sherborne, Dorset 01935 812277 www.charterhouse-auction.com or via email on info@charterhouse-auction.comAnna Williams, Charterhouse staff member, with two of the four Chinese panels sold for £500,000Quick Links For further information regarding this article, please contact Richard Bromell, Director
