The illuminated letters which were once proudly displayed on the Woolworth’s store in Crewkerne are being sold by Charterhouse in their Automobilia & Enamel Sign Auction in Sherborne on Wednesday 16th September.

“Who doesn’t remember Woolworth’s growing up, especially the pick’n’mix sweets which we might have been known to ‘try before you buy’.” Commented Richard Bromell.

Woolworths opened the Crewkerne store in 1957 but sadly it closed in 2009 This shop then became a Home Fayre shop at which point the Woolworths signage was removed in and put away in an attic room.

The Charterhouse client bought the Woolworth letters in 2024 on a whim when Home Fayre had a closing down sale. However, when he arrived home with his treasured signage his wife was unimpressed and the letters were once again relegated to the attic.

Moving forward another couple of years and the owner took advantage of a Charterhouse Automobilia & Enamel Sign valuation day at our Sherborne Salerooms where he was delighted with the £300-500 valuation, but not as much as his wife was!
