An unusually large Georgian doll, affectionately known as Dolly, is expected to sell for £3,000-5,000 in the Charterhouse two day specialist auction of toys, collector’s items, coins, medals and stamps at their Sherborne Salerooms on the 20th & 21st August.
“She is certainly one of best dolls I have had the pleasure to see and handle in the past 40 years.” Commented Richard Bromell. “She comes to auction in remarkable condition for a child’s toy which is 250-300 years old and is such a large scale being over 2 feet tall.”
Dolly was bought by the owner about 35 years ago but spent most of her time in a wooden box to keep her safe and sound.
The owner moved house just over ten years ago and Dolly was relegated to the top of a wardrobe where she gathered dust on her box lid for a decade.
Moving forward to this year and the owner decided it is time to let a new custodian look after Dolly and contact Richard at Charterhouse for a home visit where they were delighted with his auction estimate of £3,000-5,000.
