A gold coin, minted in the reign of King Henry VI is expected to sell for £2,500 in the Charterhouse specialist auction of coins, medals, militaria & stamps in Sherborne on Thursday 26th February.
“The owner brought a collection of jewellery in for auction and this little gold coin was hiding in a little brown envelope in the bottom of the box.” Commented Richard Bromell. “Thankfully, the value of the coin to collectors massively outweighs it bullion value of a couple hundred pounds so this hammered coin will not be put in the melting pot despite the price of gold being very high.”

At some 600 years old this Salut d’or coin was minted in Paris under King Henry VI sometime around 1422-1453 and was issued during the Hundred Years’ War to represent the peace treaty of Troyes and English control in France
Measuring only 3 cm in diameter this little gold coin, which is well travelled and survived world and other wars over the past 600 years, is estimated to sell for £1,500-2,500,
Charterhouse is now accepting further coins, medals and stamps, bears, dolls, model cars, trains and other toys along with for this specialist February three day collector’s auction.
