A painting of a girl born 370 years ago is one of the highlights of the Charterhouse three day auction in September.

“It is charming 17th century Dutch painting of a 3 year old girl holding an apple” Commented Richard Bromell. “And yes, the apple looks edible today!”

Painted in the manner of Caesar van Everdingen this three-quarter length picture of a 3 year old girl is dated 1659 although sadly it is not known who the child is.

For most of this century the painting has been hung on the wall of a Somerset mill house. Sadly, the owner passed away a couple of years ago and the family asked Charterhouse to first carry out a probate valuation and them to help them auction items surplus to their needs.

Estimate at £4,000-6,000 international interest from Holland to America is anticipated by the auctioneers.
