A gold, diamond and pearl brooch in the form of a Cupids arrow is one of hundreds of lots of jewellery going under the Charterhouse hammer in November “The brooch is beautifully crafted and unusually large measuring 10 cm long. ” Commented Richard Bromell. “It is just the sort of great quality piece of jewellery which is likely to sell to a private client looking to buy something special for the wife or girlfriend, but not both! ” An arrow shot from Cupids bow is supposed to cause the person to fall in love with him, and as such, has always been a popular design in jewellery to be given as a token of love. The diamond and pearl brooch being sold by Charterhouse is in its original fitted leather box from a New Bond Street jeweller and dates to the late Victorian or early Edwardian period. Estimated at £700-1,000 in the Charterhouse two day auction of jewellery, silver, watches and antiques with a special selection of wine, port & whisky on Thursday 20th and Friday 21st November in Sherborne, this token of love will surely hit its mark. The owner, who lives near Salisbury, has kept this brooch, along with other jewellery, in a safety deposit box at his bank. As the jewellery spent much of its time in the bank vaults, the owner decided to have a sort out and took the jewellery to a Charterhouse jewellery and silver valuation day. Charterhouse are now accepting items for their forthcoming auctions watches, silver, and jewellery along with a special selection of wine, port & spirits on 20th & 21st November, their December collectors auction and for their next specialist auction of classic cars and motorcycles.
